Select one of the questions below to confirm your waiver eligibility. If you qualify under multiple categories, chose the very first option to which you are eligible.
1. Financial Hardship Applicants with U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status who demonstrate financial hardship within the last year may select this option. Documentation is required, such as a GRE Fee Reduction Certificate, a letter from a financial aid officer, or a copy of the FAFSA Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
Unfortunately, the Office of Graduate Education cannot consider fee waiver requests solely on the basis of financial hardship for our international applicants. Because the Institute is located in the U.S., MIT relies on evidence from applicants of their use of economic intervention policies, based on the American federal poverty level, to assess financial hardship. While we understand and are sensitive to global economic hardships, we cannot assess the measure for financial hardship for countries other than the U.S. However, international applicants may be eligible for fee waivers provided by some academic departments and programs; please contact the department(s) to which you will apply and request a fee waiver for your application.
Applicants with U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status may upload proof of financial hardship documentation below. Include your name in the file name prior to uploading.
2. MIT Sponsored Diversity Program Applicants who have successfully completed one of the MIT sponsored diversity programs listed below should select this option. Documentation is not required; the Office of Graduate Education (OGE) will automatically confirm participation. *Note: Graduate Application Assistance Programs (GAAPs) do not qualify as a sponsored diversity program.
